A Kenya safari to the Masai Mara

A Kenya safari is a great place for those who are planning their first safari or a family safari.  It is very accessible and has a very good tourist infrastructure, without compromising on the wildlife.  It is one of the last remaining true wilderness regions in Africa – with beautiful, classic East African safari scenery and a huge diversity of wildlife and birdlife.  One of the most intriguing places you can visit on a Tanzania safari is the Masai Mara and the best time to see all that this reserve has to offer is during the months of October and November when the annual wildebeest migration is in full swing.  Millions of wildebeest and zebra make their epic journey from the Serengeti – searching for fresh grass and water.  You will see huge numbers of predators like cheetah, lion, leopard and hyena – all waiting for their chance to catch their next big meal.

One of the best camps to stay at on this Kenya safari is Cottars, a stylish camp situated on a vast 22 000 hectare reserve in the heart of the Masai Mara.  The camp is very traditional with big canvas tents that have been furnished in classic East African safari style.  The camp is run with a good sense of taste and the quality of food, service and guiding is excellent.  Activities include walking safaris with an armed guide, day and night game drives and venturing deep into the Mara to see some spectacular wildlife and scenery.  During your Kenya safari to the Masai Mara you will see countless numbers of big game and plains game as well as a good variety of bird species.

A Kenya safari to the Masai Mara combines well with a Tanzania safari to the Serengeti and a few days of rest and relaxation on the beautiful white sandy beaches on the Kenya coast.  You could also enjoy some snorkelling or scuba diving on the exotic spice island of Zanzibar.

Luxury safari pricing guide

We aim to provide you with your ideal holiday, individually designed just for you and expertly organised. When you book with us you receive this perfectly designed holiday, travel advice and preparation, flawless organisation of the trip, ATOL financial protection and our 25 years’ experience. Because we have excellent confidential rates with lodges and airlines, the price of your holiday will be generally the same as you would pay were you to somehow book all the lodges, transfers and flights yourself.

There is a world of difference between one of our tailormade safaris and most package holidays printed in a brochure. Package holidays are usually designed to be as cheap as possible and of course involve large numbers of people doing the same thing. Our safaris use small, more exclusive and remote camps usually with guests flying in, and often virtually everything is included in the price. The experience is completely different.

Many of these small lodges and camps have broadly similar prices, and it is possible to arrange a superb two week safari for between £4,000 to £7,000 per person ($7,000 – $11,000) season dependant, all inclusive. Realistically it is difficult to reduce that figure, and by including Botswana in peak season, chartering a private plane, disappearing to some magical desert island, or flying at the front of the plane it’s easy to substantially increase that figure!
