A Tanzania safari to the Serengeti

The Serengeti conjures up intriguing images of open plains and flat topped acacia trees where huge herds of animals roam free, without fences or boundaries to artificially control their movement.  It is a place that has inspired artists, composers, authors and poets and is one of the most filmed places in Africa.  It is one of Africa’s greatest wildlife habitats, covering an area of 30 000 square kilometres and is probably best known for the annual wildebeest migration that straddles the Kenya/ Tanzania ecosystems.

From November, millions of wildebeest and zebra descend on the Serengeti plains in search of fresh grass and water.  They will stay here until they have calved, moving west and then north towards Lake Victoria.  This wildlife event is one of Africa’s most exciting and spectacular natural events and should be on the top of any Tanzania safari enthusiast’s wish list.

One of the amazing scenes is when the wildebeest cross the Grumeti River.  Thousands of crocodile and land predators lie in wait to feast greedily on the young and the weak.  Africa Exclusive can plan an exclusive mobile safari that will move with the migration.  You will be provided with a private Tanzania safari guide and a private game viewing vehicle so that you can enjoy this authentic safari experience in complete privacy – as if you are the only people for thousands of miles.

A Tanzania safari to the Serengeti combines well with a few days in the Mara and a luxury beach stay on the exotic spice island of Zanzibar.  You could also combine this Tanzania safari with a gorilla trek in Rwanda or spend some time tracking chimpanzees in Uganda.
