On a South African safari you usually get to see the Big Five and a wide variety of wildlife easily and in comfort. The wildlife reserves are smaller and more closely managed than in other parts of Africa, so going there gives your family great opportunities to see lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant and even cheetah. After each game drive you return to a luxurious lodge such as Impodimo or Kwandwe with many of the comforts of a five star hotel – only you’re right out in the wilds!
We can arrange a family safari to lodges with special child focused activities like Tuningi’s one hour “bumble” game drive. The drive focuses on a couple of waterholes where the rangers know there will be exciting animals. They can fill in a special checklist of animals and birds and be helped to take photographs they’ll treasure. After a delicious lunch they might have a treasure hunt walk with a ranger seeking out elephant dung, the “small five” finding out how a five foot high termite mound works. It’s great fun and they’re learning all the time. Really small ones can also have a baby sitter while the older ones go on a game drive.
The accommodation is literally amazing! The best South African lodges take a limited number of guests in great comfort. There are pools, superb meals, games, luxurious space to relax, a TV if you want it. There are two bedroom air conditioned suites with two ensuite bathrooms and living area. Often there will be other families for you to meet, but if you prefer privacy we can also arrange a private lodge with your own chef pool and private facilities.

Every day brought new adventures and we learnt so much about every aspect of Kenya, its people and the wildlife. Within 24 hours of leaving home we were sitting overlooking Samburu, eating a bush picnic lunch while watching elephants and getting to know our two Samburu guides. How amazing is that?!

There is a world of difference between one of our tailormade safaris and most package holidays printed in a brochure. Package holidays are usually designed to be as cheap as possible and of course involve large numbers of people doing the same thing. Our safaris use small, more exclusive and remote camps usually with guests flying in, and often virtually everything is included in the price. The experience is completely different.
Many of these small lodges and camps have broadly similar prices, and it is possible to arrange a superb two week safari for between £4,000 to £7,000 per person ($7,000 – $11,000) season dependant, all inclusive. Realistically it is difficult to reduce that figure, and by including Botswana in peak season, chartering a private plane, disappearing to some magical desert island, or flying at the front of the plane it’s easy to substantially increase that figure!
