Although Kenya has seen a drought this year, the Mara has had some relief with localised afternoon showers bringing a flourish of green grass that has been grazed by the migration. The new green growth has brought all the animals together and the marsh areas are bursting with life. During the migration bulk grazers like zebra and wildebeest tend to come in first to graze - eating the leafy mass of the stem. These animals are usually followed by gazelles and topi who tend to be a little bit more fussy about their diets - going for the shorter sprigs at the base of the stem. This is a great example of how animals compliment each other in nature.
The marsh is filling up and the Reed frogs, River frogs and Guttural Toads are thriving - adding to the Maras night time symphony of sounds.
The Masai Mara game reserve is a great place for safari seekers to travel to, not to mention the luxury Kenya safari options available locally.
