Moremi Game Reserve

The Moremi Game Reserve covers most of the eastern side of the Okavango Delta in Botswana and combines the permanent patchwork lagoons with drier desert areas - making for some striking contrasts. Boasting dense concentrations of wildlife at any time of the year, the Moremi Reserve covers almost 20% of the Delta and supports a wide range of habitats from riparian woodlands, reed beds, floodplains and permanent wetland to mopane and acacia forests, dry savannas and secluded lagoons. Some prominent geographical features of the Reserve are Chiefs Island and Moremi Tongue. Chiefs Island is Moremi’s finest area, with the best Botswana safari camps – like Mombo Camp, its sister camp Little Mombo and Chiefs Camp.

The game is prolific at any time of year but the Moremi Game Reserve is at its best during the dry season between July and October when the seasonal pans dry up and the wildlife concentrates on the permanent waters. The wildlife varies between large herds of elephants and buffalo, cheetah, hyena, wild dog, giraffe, leopard, lion and jackal to a full range of antelope including the red lechwe. The birdlife is vast and varied and ranges from elegant water birds to reticent forest dwellers as well as a huge variety of ducks, geese and heron.
