Selinda Canoe Trail
Many years ago there was an ancient waterway linking the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti River system in northern Botswana. Decades of dry weather and changes in the formation of the earth’s crust caused this waterway to dry up during the 1980’s, but in the last couple of years changes in rainfall patterns have reopened the waterway which passes through some of Botswana’s richest wildlife areas.
You can now canoe this waterway on a four day Selinda canoe trail, paddling stable two man Canadian canoes down narrow channels, across open lagoons watching elephant, antelope, giraffe, buffalo and big cats and many more creatures as you go.
The safari operates from May to October and the experience is a magnificent adventure as you paddle under a vast blue Botswanan sky, past papyrus islands full of water lilies and reeds where malachite kingfishers dart into the water, watched by fish eagles perched imperially on the branches of mahogany trees.
You are led by an expert guide and support team and as the opportunity arises you can enjoy walking safaris for a couple of hours tracking animals through the bush, exploring this remote part of Botswana in complete privacy.
You stop regularly for breaks on little islands and in the evening the support team set up a comfortable camp with large two man tents, thick foam mattresses, Egyptian cotton sheets, bush showers and WC and prepare a delicious four course dinner- all the more tasty for being enjoyed as part of your adventure in this delightful part of Africa.
The Selinda canoe safari fits perfectly into a Botswana fly in safari, combined with one or two other camps in contrasting locations. You are also a relatively short flight from the desert land of Namibia, Victoria Falls and Cape Town, giving you the option to combine this safari with a diverse range of experiences.
