Chobe National Park, Botswana

Sunset on Botswana safari
Sunset on Botswana safari

The Chobe National Park in northern Botswana is a unique area of fertile floodplains, woodland and river systems which supports some of the most exciting concentrations of animals in Africa.  Chobe has Africa’s largest concentrations of elephant and it is the perfect place to witness these majestic creatures at any time of the year, though in the later part of the dry season from July to December the herds (several hundred strong) gather around these age old sources of water.  Large herds of buffalo with their characteristic curved horns, groups of curious giraffe and a whole variety of plains game can be seen on the Chobe plains.  These, in turn, attract predators, and Chobe is home to several large prides of lion which become active as the sun begins to set and they move off in search of their prey.
