You want to walk slowly through beautiful wildlife areas with an expert guide seeing hardly another soul

We can arrange this in several countries.  One of the best is Zambia’s South Luangwa valley from June to October.  It’s a wide valley with a loopy, winding river and lagoons criss-crossed by paths worn by generations of elephants.  Follow the paths, wander along the river feeling part of the timeless landscape.  Your guide will use his bushcraft to keep you safe and reveal the fascinating life of smaller creatures, plants and trees.  Of course, you’ll come across large animals too, but at a respectful distance.  South Luangwa has some delightful small “bushcamps” taking 6 to 12 guests and you can also enjoy drives, even a microlight flight at John Coppinger’s Tafika Camp.

The Chikoko Trail

You will set off with your guide for a four day Chikoko Walking Trail between Crocodile Camp and Chikoko Tree Camp.

During these four days you will opportunistically track animals through the bush pausing by lagoons, sometimes following old elephant paths and at others wandering the banks of the LuangwaRiver or one of its tributaries, as your guide shares his deep love and knowledge of the area and its inhabitants.

Both camps are similar in style and each has been built using local materials and with conservation in mind - for example, the floors have been made with seasoned dead mopane poles on top of which a traditional earthen floor is packed, rather than from precious hardwood planks.

Crocodile has just three reed chalets with en-suite showers and w.c.’s.  It stands beside Crocodile Lagoon, an hour’s walk from Tafika and approximately two hours from Chikoko.

Chikoko Tree Camp is on the Chikoko River 300 metres from the Luangwa, upstream and on the opposite bank to Tafika. Again there are three chalets, all raised approximately three metres on stilts, with en suite flush wc, shower and wash hand basins. Each chalet has a magnificent view across Acacia Park - which is always teeming with game.

There are no roads in the area so all game viewing is done on foot.
