Kwara Camp sits in the heart of the Okavango Delta on a very large private area of land, which encompasses not only the open lagoons and shallow waterways of the Okavango, but also great expanses of savannah and forest leading to the Moremi Wildlife Reserve. Altogether the Kwara Reserve measures 1750km and the camp itself is hidden on a large wooded island with just eight huge tents set under a big shady canopy of trees. The view from each tent is excellent and encompasses the plains and lagoons of the delta and each has en-suite w.c. and shower, two wash basins and large bed with safari furniture and veranda.
The reserve has so many different types of habitat that you can expect to enjoy excellent game viewing here, including sightings of big herds of plains game such as zebra, wildebeest, a variety of antelope, giraffe and buffalo. The reserve also has resident prides of lion, as well as leopard and hyena and you can also expect to see a host of smaller creatures such as warthog, baboon and, on night drives, porcupine and civet cats. Elephants are also present in large numbers and you can spend hours watching these magnificent creatures, with their complex family structures, roaming the Okavango floodplains.
You can enjoy a wide variety of game viewing activities including traditional mokoro canoeing, boating, walks with an armed guide and tracker and drives by open vehicle during the day and at night. Because of this variety and flexibility we usually recommend a stay of at least three nights here.
Lagoon Camp is located on the largest private game viewing reserve in Botswana the Kwando Concession, which extends for 2320km and which has a private river frontage along the Kwando River extending for fifty miles. Only two camps share this immense area of prime game viewing country Lagoon Camp and its sister camp, Lebala, which lies 35kms to the south. The Concession encompasses part of the Linyanti and Kwando river systems which includes slow flowing rivers and big lagoons leading on to areas of rich forest, ebony, marula and sausage trees. Further afield are great expanses of open grassland dotted with baobab trees with isolated waterholes.
This huge area of land supports large numbers of animals including large herds of elephant and buffalo, a wide variety of antelope including water-adapted species such as tsessebe and endangered species like roan and sable, as well as giraffe and other plains game. This is also a particularly good area of seeing predators and lion are very much in evidence, as well as leopard and cheetah. A pack of wild dog have also denned in the area for the last eight years running.
Because Lagoon Camp is set on private land you can enjoy the widest range of game viewing options here including drives by open vehicle during the day and at night when a spotlight is used to see nocturnal creatures, and you can also enjoy walking at the discretion of the guides. On these walks you are accompanied by a tracker as well as an armed guide, following the course of old elephant paths through the bush, walking along the river's banks pausing regularly to look at tracks, to learn fascinating facts about plants and to admire birds and the beautiful scenery. You can also enjoy boat rides at Lagoon Camp on the Kwando River using the camp's double-decker river boat, which is particularly good for bird watching and for watching animals as they come down to drink at sunset.
The accommodation is in eight huge tented rooms with king size or twin beds, safari furniture, en-suite flush w.c., shower and hand basins with hot/cold running water, and fine views across the lagoon. The camp has an excellent staff of guides, is very well managed and the standard of cuisine is very good indeed.
Lebala Camp is sits on a peninsula of land pointing out into the heart of the Linyanti Delta. The delta has big seasonal floodplains, hundreds of square miles of stretching savannah, as well as forest areas of mopane trees, huge old baobabs and acacia; all of which attracts a diverse range of animals.
Lebala Camp is positioned on the largest private game viewing concession in Botswana the Kwando Concession. As the concession is private you are able to enjoy a wide range of game viewing activities including walking with an armed guide and tracker, open vehicle game drives both during the day and at night with a spotlight to view nocturnal creatures. Lebala also has a hide close to the camp where you can enjoy exciting close up game viewing.
The huge Kwando reserve attracts vast numbers of animals including large breeding herds of elephant, herds of buffalo, graceful giraffe and a wide variety of zebra, antelope, wildebeest and other plains game. The more rare antelope such as roan, sable, sitatunga and lechwe are also regularly seen. Kwando is an excellent place for spotting predators and wild dogs regularly around the den in the area, and if you add the cheetah, leopard and lion which all inhabit the reserve you have an exciting predator population.
Bird watching at the reserve is also very good indeed with around 400 species including big eagles, brilliantly coloured kingfishers, storks, herons and an enormous variety of other birds. Your guides would know every one.
The camp is very comfortable with just eight huge tents set on a raised wooden deck with en-suite bathrooms (flush w.c. and shower), proper beds, safari furniture and a private veranda facing onto the open plains. The standard of cuisine here is very good indeed and all drinks and laundry are inclusive.
Islands of Siankaba Lodge is the most classic of forested retreats, with six secluded chalets linked by a foot bridge to an excellent restaurant, all on two untouched islands in the mighty Zambezi River between the 'Seventh Wonder of the Natural World', the magnificent Victoria Falls, and the world famous Chobe National Park.
This is a luxurious five star lodge, sleeping just twelve guests. The chalets have been uniquely designed and are constructed of teak and custom made canvas tenting. They are raised well above ground level into the tree canopy with their balconies extending out over the Zambezi. Each is linked by a winding over-head walkway so that guests do not actually walk on the islands surface in order to protect the fragile riverine environment. All chalets are opulently finished and equipped with en-suite bathrooms (ball and claw baths and separate shower), mini bar, large mosquito nets, ceiling fan and private safe.
The principal guest amenities are located on the larger island whilst the guest chalets are situated on the smaller island overlooking the river towards the game reserve on the southern bank. There is a dining room, a bar and a sparkling swimming pool.
Activities available at Islands of Siankaba include guided tours to the impressive Victoria Falls, guided birding and tree walks on the main island's nature trail, guided fishing trips for the elusive Zambezi Tiger Fish, game drives to Livingstone's Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park where a sighting of a rhino is almost guaranteed, or to Chobe National Park, which boasts perhaps the finest elephant sightings in Africa. You can also take sunset river cruises, enjoying a cool sundowner on board whilst viewing a magnificent African sunset or take dugout canoe trips around the Islands with your own private paddler/guide. Cultural village tours are also offered, giving you the opportunity to discover a truly genuine African village unchanged for centuries.
The lodge can also arrange transfers into Victoria Falls to see the waterfall and enjoy a flight over the falls, elephant riding and river cruises.
