Kenya Fact File

Getting there

Kenya is the easiest safari country to reach, 8 hours direct flight from London with a 2 hour time difference from GMT. Africa Exclusive arranges air travel between safari camps so there is no wasted travel time. You can leave London at 8 pm and be sipping a cool drink watching elephants before lunch the following day, so Kenya would work well for a short break.

Seasons

The main rains fall April and May and to a lesser extent November. The coast is wetter at these times so should be avoided. Safaris can be enjoyed all year round as the rains bring flowers, fresh grasses, baby animals and places are quieter.

Is Kenya for You

Kenya has big, varied, typically African scenery and lots of easy to see wildlife and birds. It is one of the few places where you can meet local tribal people. It has good beaches and easy links to Zanzibar and Mauritius. In recent years small luxury safari camps and lodges have been set up mainly on private reserves, so you can enjoy your safari in relative privacy (no minibuses) though some areas like the Mara do get busy especially in August. You can enjoy open vehicle drives, walking and in some places horseback, quad biking and hot air ballooning. It is reasonably priced.

Kenya is one of the most popular countries with Africa Exclusive clients. It is also a favourite family destination with some family accommodation and is popular with honeymooners as you have the coastal links.

Combining Kenya

Kenya has its own beaches (mostly quite busy) and easy links to Zanzibar for a more exotic beach stay, and Mauritius and Dubai for five stay beach luxury or the Seychelles for sheer tropical beauty. The Maldives are not easy to reach from Africa though if you are seeking a remote desert island experience the islands off the Mozambique coast are also accessible, and in our view better. You can also combine Kenya with Ngorongoro and other parts of Tanzania, though there is little point visiting both the Masai Mara and the Serengeti.
