Richard's Camp

Richards Camp is an intimate family run camp set in the Mara grasslands on the edge of a forest in the Masai Mara conservation area, approximately 100 miles west of Nairobi in Kenya. It has the atmosphere of a traditional tented camp and is the perfect base for exploring the sheer magic of the Masai Mara.

The camp has six beautifully decorated en-suite tents that have been individually decorated in classic African safari style with some modern luxury touches. There is also a Victorian bath tucked away in the forest where you will be able to enjoy a relaxing soak by candlelight at the end of an adventure filled day. Three course dinners are enjoyed under the vast starlit Kenyan skies and if the weather turns the dining room is moved indoors next to the roaring fire in the cosy sitting room. Another interesting dynamic to this fantastic camp is the fly camping experience. You will have the rare opportunity to spend a night with basic comforts in very close quarters with nature, sleeping in a tent or just under a mosquito net, as the moon shines down and the noises of the African night begin. It is the highlight of an East African safari.

You will experience heart stopping game viewing at Richards Camp; from the elephant and plains game that visit the camp on a regular basis, to the herds of buffalo, wildebeest, antelope, hippo, giraffe, cheetah and leopard that are regularly spotted on the plains of the reserve. The Mara is also host to the annual migration that takes place between June and October.

Your days will be designed to be as exciting or relaxing as you wish and the activities on offer include escorted bush walks, day and night game drives, romantic picnics and sundowners or floating quietly over the Mara in a hot air balloon.

"To watch as a herd of elephants make their way in slow but purposeful steps across the dusty plains of Amboseli with Mount Kilimanjaro providing a distant backdrop is to see something truly magnificent."
