Mauritius

If your idea of the perfect beach holiday is to stay at a smart five star plus resort hotel with prompt courteous service, world class facilities and an abundance of water sports, then you’ll adore Mauritius.  This sub-tropical island’s mountainous interior is fringed with long pristine sandy beaches leading to expansive bays of calm azure waters protected by beautiful coral reefs.  It is as if the island was created for beach holidays!

Mauritius

You have a bewildering array of hotels which are constantly trying to outdo each other in their quest for new levels of excellence, and of course they all seem to blend confusingly as you visit one alluring website after another.  A call to Africa Exclusive will reveal that they are not as similar as they appear.  You may be honeymooners, or a family with teenagers, you may want to visit when the cool easterly trade winds are blowing, you may want to play golf or enjoy good snorkelling from the beach and of course you will have a budget in mind.  Each hotel has its particular location, character and facilities.

You may want a really smart hotel in which case we may recommend Le Saint Geran with its chic restaurants, impeccable service and sheer elegance or perhaps a quiet hotel like the Oberoi where you can enjoy the secluded spaciousness of your own private villa with its own pool.  If you’re a family with teenagers the criteria will probably be determined by their needs – perhaps tons of water sports, tennis, entertainment and a location near Grande Baie with its nightlife.  You might like Sugar Beach.  When we have spoken to you and listened to your personal blend of requirements we will be able to include the ideal hotel for you in your tailormade itinerary.

Mauritius Seasons

You can enjoy a good beach holiday at Mauritius’ luxurious hotels at any time of year.  During the summer, from late October until the end of March the weather is reliably warm and frequently sunny with temperatures between the mid 20s and the mid 30s every day.  This time of year also sees occasional thundershowers and more rarely, tropical storms.  April and October are two of the best months to travel with good temperatures and mainly dry weather.  May to September is rather cooler with a prevailing trade wind from the east, bringing showers.  This means that hotels on the sheltered western coast are usually a better choice in those months where temperatures can still reach the low 30s becoming a little too cool to be on the beach by late afternoon.

Mauritius - Useful Information

Mauritius is 10 hours flying time from London and there are direct overnight flights from London six days a week.  UK and US citizens do not require a visa.  Several direct five hour flights each day connect Johannesburg to Mauritius making it a relatively convenient beach location to combine with a holiday to South Africa or the Central African countries.  There are two direct four hour flights a week between Nairobi and Mauritius.

Mauritius is an ideal choice if you are seeking a high quality resort hotel offering a wide variety of watersports.  The better hotels provide an exceptionally high standard of service and facilities including spas.  A few also have golf courses.
