Matemo Island
With its twenty seven islands virtually untouched and unexplored, the Quirimbas archipelago represents one of the few tropical island destinations in the world still untainted by man's influence.
Surrounded by the azure waters of the Indian Ocean Matemo Island is one of the most wonderfully remote places on earth providing guests with luxurious accommodation, delicious food and stunning ocean views. Each of the lodges 24 open fronted beach chalets has a large en-suite bathroom, including an outdoor shower and deck area where you can while away an afternoon. The spacious guest areas are gently elevated above the sea, with the lively bar, dining area and swimming pool commanding sweeping views over the Indian Ocean.
Fresh, seafood-oriented meals are served in a variety of locations, from the open dining area to the poolside or on the sand with the sea lapping at your feet. To ensure ultimate relaxation, a range of simple spa treatments is on offer and can be enjoyed wherever guests please.
Matemo can offer some of the most superb and exciting watersport activities of anywhere in the Indian Ocean. This island is surrounded by beautiful coral gardens which have not been bleached or affected by el nino and you can enjoy wonderful snorkelling and diving to a variety of depths, including opportunities for wall dives and a wreck dive. The deep water channels around the island are good for deep sea fishing and king fish, yellow fin tuna and barracuda are regularly caught, while you can also fish from the island in the shadows. Other watersports include windsurfing, water skiing, wake and knee boarding, as well as sailing, while on the island you can try a game of volley ball or beach tennis.
In many respects, Matemo is the ultimate Indian Ocean hideaway with just the right blend of comfort, seclusion and opportunities for adventure.
