Wolwedans Dune Lodge

The Namib Rand Nature Reserve is one of the most beautiful desert regions in Africa with a marvellous diversity of desert landscapes set in a brilliant range of colours. The Reserve seems to have drawn elements of some of Namibia’s most spectacular scenery within its borders and you can see touches of the apricot-coloured Sossusvlei dunes, the haunting beauty of the Skeleton Coast and the red sands of the Kalahari in this privately owned conservation area. Altogether the area is 180,000 hectares, restricted to those staying at Wolwedans Dune Lodge.

The Lodge has been built on raised wooden platforms which overlook the surrounding Namib Desert with far reaching views in every direction. The design is a combination of wooden structures and large canvas blinds which reflect the charm of a tented camp. All communal areas which consist of two lounges, a tea deck, a library and two dining rooms open out onto verandas with fantastic views. The eight spacious chalets have en-suite bathrooms and canvas walls which open onto private decks. The furniture and décor complements the wood and canvas in cool, natural tones and fabrics. The Wolwedans Mountain View Suite is another feature to this unique mountain camp, providing living space in abundance for honeymooners and those wanting to stay over for a few more days in private seclusion and absolute comfort.

The Nature Reserve is a conservation area which the owners are careful to protect and within it live a wide range of beautiful creatures including bat-eared fox, spotted hyena, mountain and plains zebra, springbok, red hartebeest and African wildcats among others. The beautiful ranges of dunes have fascinating desert-adapted vegetation and the area has over a 100 species of birds. Visitors are introduced to this fascinating ecosystem on foot, by vehicle or from the air (in a plane or hot air balloon) with an experienced and knowledgeable guide. Other activities include picnics, walking and sundowners on the dunes and dinners by candlelight.
