The essence of a top quality safari lodge is that it provides uncompromisingly civilised accommodation and services in an utterly remote setting out in the unspoilt wilds among the animals. The people who own these places are inspired to build a lodge in harmony with its spectacular setting. Often they are a “labour of love” more than a money making venture. Many of Africa’s most luxurious lodges are in South Africa, like Singita Boulders, Phinda and Royal Madikwe. Yet every country has its own amazing places, like Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, with its fabulous views across the crater, and Saruni Samburu set in its own vast private reserve by the Samburu hills. Your choice of accommodation is a vital factor in creating a safari that will be perfect for you. We know these luxurious lodges intimately and have a close relationship with their owners. So call us now to plan your safari at an amazing combination of places.
This gorgeous five star lodge sits right on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. You can soak in your tub beside a vase of roses and gaze towards the immense crater. Safari purists may scoff at the massive chandeliers general opulence but if you fancy wearing a smart dress to dinner while staying at one of the wonders of the world, this is the place for it. After all, you’ll soon be back under canvas in the Serengeti! From Crater Lodge your private guide will take you 1500 feet down the precipitous crater walls to safari among the 20,000 animals inhabiting the crater floor. There are rhinoceros, lion prides, elephant, plains game and thousands of flamingo on Lake Magadi.
Royal Madikwe is an intimate and luxurious property consisting of just five beautiful chalets which enjoy sweeping views over the game filled plains. Each very spacious chalet features a sitting area, a bedroom with a large dressing area and an en-suite bathroom which features both indoor and outdoor showers. Magnificent French doors open onto to wooden decking which leads to an inviting plunge pool where you can cool off in the heat of the day.
Singita Boulders Lodge is situated in a grove of giant ebony and knobthorn trees above the steep banks of the Sand River in the game rich bush of the Sabi Sands Reserve. Sleeping just twenty-four people, Singita provides an exceptionally high quality safari experience. The airy main lodge has sweeping views over the river and open plain beyond, with a leisure deck overhanging the river – an ideal venue for relaxation and dining al fresco. Each of the twelve luxurious suites has a very large bedroom, lounge and bathroom, all air-conditioned and with wonderful views across the Sand River. Each suite also has a private pool.
Saruni Samburu is located on the Kalama Conservancy right next to the Samburu National Reserve. Surrounded by 95,000 hectares of private wilderness and perched on top of a spectacular viewpoint Saruni Samburu is a rare privilege for its handful of guests. Imaginatively designed by Kenyan architect Mark Glen, each of the six huge villas is a haven of peace and tranquillity, constructed from natural materials, with a spacious bedroom looking out over the plains below and an equally vast bathroom with equally good views.
Chitwa Chitwa is located in the Sabi Sands Private Reserve which is regarded as the best Big 5 game viewing reserve in Southern Africa. The lodge is privately owned by the Brink family and personally run by them, and is set in a magnificent position overlooking a lake where animals frequently come to drink, play and wallow right in front of the lodge.

There is a world of difference between one of our tailormade safaris and most package holidays printed in a brochure. Package holidays are usually designed to be as cheap as possible and of course involve large numbers of people doing the same thing. Our safaris use small, more exclusive and remote camps usually with guests flying in, and often virtually everything is included in the price. The experience is completely different.
Many of these small lodges and camps have broadly similar prices, and it is possible to arrange a superb two week safari for between £4,000 to £7,000 per person ($7,000 – $11,000) season dependant, all inclusive. Realistically it is difficult to reduce that figure, and by including Botswana in peak season, chartering a private plane, disappearing to some magical desert island, or flying at the front of the plane it’s easy to substantially increase that figure!
