We are just back from our spectacular safari in Southern Africa. Let me start by thanking you for arranging such a memorable and enjoyable 12 days. We had high expectations and, without exception, all eight of us feel that our experience was better than we anticipated.
Your recommendation that we get a guide for the whole trip, while not that common, was a terrific suggestion-especially for a first time Safari visitor. Our guide, Clinton, was an ideal guide-he was extremely gregarious, knowledgeable and high-energy. In addition, he was very practical in deferring to local guides so as not to make them uncomfortable. We recommend him without reservation. We also really appreciate your securing Super Sande for us at Jack’s Camp. He was excellent for us at the end of the trip, in that he was probably even more knowledgeable, very local and also integrated well with our group. We also recommend him without reservation, although it’s clear he’s already very well-known; finally, we simply couldn’t of had a better pilot with a better plane – Clyde was professional, friendly and a pleasure to have on the entire journey. I doubt any of your guests could do better.
All four camps worked for us. I would say that Vumbra was extraordinary, as it relates to the variety of wildlife (sitting on the edge of the Delta) and the spectacular accommodations. Jack’s camp, which I’m sure you know well, was also magical, in its own authentic way, being the most integrated into the surroundings yet with exquisite food and a genuine colonial feel. We enjoyed dining with Ralph and Caroline (owners of the camp). I could imagine us going back to both of these lodges in the future.
Savuti Elephant Lodge was a great introduction, although we might’ve had a unique experience since we shared the camp with the president of Belmond and his family. We had a great time and the food was very good here. I understand the camp is going to be redone in the next six months. Xigera Camp worked fine for us although I think it is in need of a bigger upgrade than is planned, as I understand. Food here was fine but bottom of the four.
Also we quite enjoyed the Royal Chundu River Lodge, as an intro to our trip. While it was further away than we realized from the falls, the staff was fantastic, they arranged great activities for us on short notice, took us on delightful sundowner cruises each night and escorted us through a local village – which was illuminating and fascinating.
Any case, those are some of the immediate post-Safari thoughts. We will catch up before too long about scheduling our next one!
