Chris Lmariamu Letur
Saruni Samburu is situated on a vast private conservancy in Samburu region of northern Kenya, a magnificent part of the country where visitors enjoy exciting wildlife experiences both by vehicle and on foot surrounded by spectacular scenery.
The Samburu people add another interesting dimension to a safari northern Kenya and many of the staff and guides at Saruni are local Samburu. This gives guests staying at the camp a unique opportunity to learn more about this fascinating culture and Chris Lmariamu Letur is one such guide. He has received wonderful praise both from our client’s who have spent time with him and also from members of our team who have visited Saruni Samburu, always showing incredible knowledge and enthusiasm.
As one client commented on his return from Saruni Samburu, “It was an ethical and authentic African experience and the treatment and service was first class. We felt like participants rather than merely tourists. Amazing.”
Having been fortunate enough to attend school for 12 years, somewhat unusual for a Samburu, Chris developed an interest in the natural world as he learnt more about the mammals, birds and plants that had been so much a part of his life growing up. As he studied further Chris became a keen botanist and is always eager to teach clients about the medicinal uses for trees, plants and herbs within the Samburu culture.
His education and enthusiasm for his subject lead him to continue his studies with the aim to becoming a member of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association and Chris is proud to have accomplished this ambition, holding the bronze award.
If you would like to visit Saruni Samburu and spend a few privileged days in the company of one of our favourite East African guides give one of our safari design team a call.
