Mahé Island
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban or even suburban life, then look no further than island of Mahé. Located within the island country of the Seychelles, Mahé is the largest, most populous and most developed island in the Seychelles. As such, it has many of the niceties that many of us have grown used to over the years. A luxury beach holiday to Mahé would allow you to experience all of the adventure you have come to expect from the Indian Ocean islands, but without leaving all of your comforts behind.
The island of Mahé has some excellent water sports for you to enjoy on your next luxury beach holiday in the Seychelles, especially around the city of Beau Vallon in the northwest part of Mahé. This island has beach waters that are considered to be deeper than most other beaches around the world and makes for great swimming. A snorkeling and scuba diving trip to the northwest corner of this beautiful island is also good. Beau Vallon also has some decent facilities for waterskiing, sailing, windsurfing and parasailing, as well as banana boat rides.
The tallest peak on the island of Mahé is located within the Morne Seychellois National Park and stands at 905 meters above sea level. Covering 20 percent of the island, it will be almost impossible to bypass this natural attraction.
Morne Seychellois National Park was created to protect some of the indigenous plant life that is unique only to this area of the world. The Jellyfish tree, the Seychelles Pitcher plant and multiple species of orchids are just a few examples of the plant and tree life that can be found only in the Seychelles.
There are maps and trails guides for all of the trails inside of the park, and each trail is clearly marked. A few of the trails that you can use to see as much of this national park as you would like, are:
-
Trois Freres Peak trail
-
Tea Factory to Morne Blanc
-
Danzil to Anse Major
-
Kopolia Peak trail
Beau Vallon is the islands main tourism center. However there are several other areas on the island that each provide a unique look into the culture and diversity of the island:
-
Anse a la Mouche – Located to the south, there are some artists’ studios worth visiting
-
Anse aux Poules Bleues – Also located to the south, there are some more artists’ studios here
