Silhouette Island
The Seychelles is a little island country tucked away in a beautiful portion of the Indian Ocean slightly northeast of Madagascar. Among the approximately 115 islands that make up this quant grouping of islands, you will find Silhouette Island. This island is located about 7 miles northwest of Mahé or about 580 miles off of the coast of Kenya and Tanzania. If you appreciate the outdoors, scuba diving, plants and animals, then a luxury beach holiday would give you the unique opportunity to explore this island.
Silhouette Island is the third largest island in the Seychelles, exceeded only by Mahé and Praslin. It is a truly beautiful island with much more to offer than its smaller size would indicate. Silhouette Island is very mountainous, and there are five huge peaks that define its skyline:
-
Mont Dauban (740 meters)
-
Mont-Pot-a-Eau (621 meters)
-
Gratte Fesse (515 meters)
-
Mont Corgat (502 meters)
-
Mont Cocos Marrons (500 meters)
These large peaks give Silhouette Island some of the most dramatic views in the Seychelles.
In addition to the pure beauty of the area, Silhouette Island is within one of the most diverse locations in the western Indian Ocean. As such, it is within a Marine National Park, and the Nature Protection Trust of Seychelles manages the conservation on the island. The island eco-system is home to various plant and animal species that are endemic (the vibrant coral barrier reefs), threatened (Seychelles sheath-tailed bat and Arnold’s Giant Tortoises) and critically endangered (wild Seychelles giant tortoises). Your next luxury African safari should include a visit to the Republic of Seychelles. Africa Exclusive will ensure you are able to get the most out of this island in a safe and environmentally conscience way.
For the outdoor enthusiasts, there is more than enough hiking and scuba diving to keep you busy for days. The high-jetting peaks of the surrounding mountains on Silhouette Island make for many challenging hikes. The impressive views found at the summit of the peaks will never leave you wishing for more as you look out at all of the natural beauty found in the area. The beautiful coral barrier reefs offer an amazing beach holiday experience, as there are many excellent dive sites. However, be aware that there are some strong currents throughout the area which may limit your adventures some.
If you are interesting in taking a different kind of luxury holiday that involves beautiful scenery and other amazing outdoor opportunities, a trip to Silhouette Island might be for you. No matter if you more interested in the mountains or the sea, you will certainly enjoy your next visit to the Seychelles.
