Camp Jabulani

If you are looking for a unique South African safari, then Camp Jabulani is a luxury experience not to be missed.

Camp Jabulani is situated within the Kapamba Private Game Reserve, a 12000 hectare Big Five game reserve which borders the Kruger National Park. It is an area of summer rainfall and winters which bring cold nights and bright, clear days. Winter is arguably the best time for game viewing as the bush tends to be less dense. In addition to the Big Five game viewing, other mammals to be seen include bush pig, baboon, giraffe, hyena, jackal, mongoose, monkey and wild dog.

Camp Jabulani was founded by the renowned wildlife visionary, Lente Roode who is also the co-founder of the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre. The camp has altruistic beginnings, when an orphaned baby elephant was found stuck in the mud of a silt dam. He was rescued and given the name Jabulani which means “happiness” in Zulu.

Jabulani was later joined by twelve elephants that were rescued in Zimbabwe and the camp was founded as a means to support these amazing creatures.

The design of the camp is organic and earthy – finished with textured straw and walls decorated with marula pips and sandstone pebbles. Bold antiques blend effortlessly with contemporary furnishings such as the Zebra skin covered Louis XV armchairs and Phillipe Starck bathtubs. The suites have a warm and cosy, yet opulent ambience and the attention to detail is astounding.

Each of the six luxurious suites is temperature controlled and has private splash pools, outdoor showers, fire places and lounge areas. During the day the walls of the suites are rolled up by attentive butlers to bring the ultimate in bush experiences just that bit closer.

The meals are an exquisite fusion of colour, flavour and texture and are prepared with the freshest, locally sourced ingredients. Wines are carefully selected from some of South Africa’s finest vineyards to compliment the beautifully presented food.

The camp also boasts an organic spa where guests can relax with a hot stone massage, a steam room/sauna and a fully equipped gymnasium.

The highlight of any guests visit will be the elephant back safaris, in particular the night safaris which depart daily with highly experienced and knowledgeable guides. Before departing, guests are given the opportunity to bond with the elephants and are matched to them according to temperament.

Other activities include bush walks, clay pigeon shooting, hot air ballooning and bird-watching. Guests are also invited to visit the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, a private research and breeding facility where you will be given the opportunity to touch the resident cheetahs.
