Zambia Fact File

Getting there

Zambia is quite easy to reach by a 10 hour overnight flight from London three times a week.  A connecting plane would then whisk you down to the Zambezi so you can enjoy a delicious lunch to the sound of a hippo chorus.   Travel between National Parks is by air, usually taking about an hour.

Seasons

Zambia is quite strongly seasonal.   The best time to visit is during the latter part of the dry season from June to the end of October.  From mid November quite heavy rain falls closing the more remote camps.  This said, nothing is ever quite that simple in the seasons and you can enjoy some marvellous low cost safaris at the permanent lodges from November to May.  Call us to discuss the ideal time for you to visit.

Is Zambia for you?

Zambia is particularly good for a more adventurous safari.  The walking tends to be “proper” walking maybe three or four hours – one of the best things you can do on safari.  This is one of the few places you can go Canadian canoeing which is a lot safer than it sounds even with hippos, crocodiles and the occasional swimming elephant sharing the river with you.  Boat rides, open vehicle safaris and fascinating night drives complete the activity menu.   As you will know from reading this website, you are never uncomfortable on an Africa Exclusive safari.   The accommodation in Zambia is appealing; particularly to British people for its slightly homespun individuality, and Zambia has some of the best small “bush camps” in Africa most taking 6 to 8 people.  At the more remote camps you can enjoy a high degree of privacy and can go several days without seeing another vehicle.

Zambia would be one of our top choices for an unforgettable “last family holiday” with older teenagers especially as it also has Victoria Falls with more adventurous things to do like white water rafting and micro lights.  It is also excellent for those who want to get right away from it all and enjoy a slightly more active Bushcamp safari.

Combining Zambia

For the water, Zambia is close to Lake Malawi which makes an interesting alternative beach location.  There are also good links to Zanzibar, and with an overnight stay in Johannesburg you can fly on to Mauritius, the Seychelles and Mozambique.  From Victoria Falls you are just a hop away from Botswana.
