River Club
The River Club is situated on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River, some 18 km upstream from the Victoria Falls – one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
The River Clubs ten spacious split level chalets which include two honeymoon suites have been built in a peaceful setting, far from the crowds amongst lush riverine vegetation on the banks of the river. These elegantly furnished chalets are open fronted and offer magnificent views of the river.
The lodge which overlooks lush manicured gardens and a croquet court has a distinct Edwardian feel. The main building houses the dining room, and the drawing room has an interesting library with reading material that focuses on the history of southern Africa. There is also a beautiful infinity swimming pool with spectacular views over the Zambezi River. The service at the River Club is superb and the cuisine is of an excellent standard.
Relaxed activities include fishing, sundowner cruises on the river and bird watching walks. You can also visit one of the local markets or villages and the town of Livingstone is also worth a visit. Livingstone dates back to the early 1900’s when the Victoria Falls Bridge was completed. Many of the town’s amenities date back to this era and include the recently renovated 18 hole golf course, the country’s first synagogue and its museum where many of David Livingstone’s personal possessions are on display.
Although the River Club is not a traditional safari camp, its main attraction being the nearby Victoria Falls, elephants can be seen in the Zambezi National Park and hippo are regularly seen and heard in the river itself. Games drives are also offered into the nearby Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park where there is an abundance of general game species like buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and impala. White river rafting, canoeing, river surfing, bungee jumping, abseiling, clay pigeon shooting and scenic flights over the Falls can also be arranged.
