Sussi and Chuma
Sussi and Chuma is a romantic riverbank hideaway about ten minutes upstream from the Victoria Falls. The lodge has been named after David Livingstone’s friends who, upon his death, bravely carried him all the way from the interior to the British Embassy in Dar-es-Salaam.
It is the perfect for those who have a day or two to spare at the beginning or end of their Zambian safari. The accommodation consists of 12 luxury tree houses built into a canopy of ebony trees that line the riverbank. The river is dotted with little islands and rapids and the soothing sound of the water washing over the rocks can be heard from the tree houses. The decor is a charming mix of African colours, curios and artistry.
There are also two exclusive houses with three bedrooms two of which are en-suite, spacious living areas and a private plunge pool. These houses come with your very own private chef, vehicle and guide and boat for river activities. Meals are served outdoors whenever possible – often around the evening campfire.
The main lodge features a spectacular raised bar and lounge area, open dining area, a swimming pool and manicured lawns that stretch to the water’s edge. Resident wildlife, such as hippopotamus and elephant are likely to wonder through the grounds at any time during your stay.
A wide range of activities add to the attraction of this luxury retreat. Guided bush walks, canoe trips, sunset cruises, game drives through the Mosi-oa-Tunya Park and cultural visits are a few examples.
