Tena Tena Camp
Tena Tena Camp is situated amongst the impressive landscapes on the east bank of the Luangwa River in the northern sector of the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. The Luangwa Valley marks the end of the Great Rift Valley and is one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa, covering an area of 5600m².
Tena Tena Camp is shaded by a grove of mahogany trees and consists of ten luxurious tents with verandas boasting the most beautiful views over the lagoon and the local waterhole, where game is often seen drinking. The camp is the perfect location for a romantic honeymoon and has a lovely honeymoon suite. The spacious tents have been decorated with a rustic Mediterranean feel and are beautifully furnished in rich colours with Persian rugs on the floors and hand dyed throws and cushions on the comfortable beds. The en-suite open air bathrooms have been constructed from woven bamboo. The chef’s delicious meals are served from the thatched dining room where you will be able to watch the elephants, giraffe, hippopotamus and antelope at the river banks.
Tena Tena Camp is also situated close to the Buca Buca lagoon where you will be able to spend a whole morning quietly sitting and watching or photographing the game from a hide as they come down to feed and drink. The surrounding woodlands and plains of the valley host over 400 species of birdlife.
After your morning activity you can head back to camp for lunch and a siesta and then in the late afternoon set out towards the river bank in a 4x4 vehicle; stopping along the way to watch the sunset over the river, with a sundowner in hand. You will then continue your game drive with a spotlight in search of the nocturnal owls, genets, lions and leopard. Other activities you will be able to enjoy at Tena Tena Camp include daily walks, bush picnics, night game drives and visits to the local Kawaza Village and school.
