Activities at the Victoria Falls

Most of these Victoria Falls activities can be booked direct upon your arrival, however it is strongly advised that you pre-book to secure places especially on popular activities such as the elephant experience, helicopter trip or walking with lions, or on trips which have limited numbers such as the Livingstone Island excursions where limited numbers are accommodated on the island at each time.  Availability is also limited during peak seasons. 

Flight of Angels

Enjoy an ideal bird’s eye view of the Zambezi River, the Falls and the Gorges with a variety of helicopter excursions ranging from fifteen minutes to longer scenic flights. The viewpoint offered by the helicopter gives guests a better understanding of the zig-zag gorge system and how it developed and provides superb photo opportunities as the helicopter banks and swoops over the falls and islands. 

African Queen Sunset Cruise

Relax and enjoy the riverine vegetation whilst on a sunset cruise on the mighty Zambezi. The birdlife is excellent, while you cruise past hippo and the occasional crocodile.  Drinks and snacks are included and the excursion usually lasts two hours.

Elephant Back Safari

This is an elephant experiencerather than an elephant safari, and guests are encouraged to interact with the elephants by getting close up as well as ride them through the African Bush. The excursion lasts three to four hours.

Livingstone Island Lunch or Livingstone Island excursion

The island is on the very lip of the Falls on the Zambian side of the border, and is one of the world's most unusual picnic sites. The lunches cater for a maximum of ten. Journey by boat through the channels of the Zambezi as you re-trace Livingstone’s approach to the island. Enjoy a guided tour of the island and three course plated lunch. Swimming opportunities available in the island’s very own bathing pool formed each year amongst the rocks along the edge of the falls.

Private walking tours of the falls visiting Mukuni Village

A privately guided tour of one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World. The local name Musi-Oa-Tunya, meaning "the smoke that thunders", occurs when the tranquil expanse of the Zambezi River plunges over a chasm 1708m wide and 103m deep, creating a shower of spray and a deafening noise. A death defying leap into the Gorge off the Victoria Falls Bridge, which is 111m high.

Canoeing

Gently glide downriver exploring inlets, islands and rocky outcrops, getting close to nature and ride gentle grade one or two rapids.  Minimum age restriction is ten years.

Chobe Day Trip

This safari begins at 0730 from Victoria Falls with a road transfer across the border at Kazangula (approx one hour from Victoria Falls) and includes a boat/pontoon cruise, game drive in open 4x4 vehicles and lunch which is taken at a lodge on the banks of the Chobe River.  

Fishing

The Zambezi is famous for one of the great freshwater game fish - the Tigerfish, Bream, or Tilapia also live in large numbers in the river, and spinners and lures are the most common methods of catching these fish, though fly fishing is becoming more popular.

Game Drives into Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park

White rhino, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, zebra and several antelope species are found here, and elephant often visit the park, swimming back and forth across the river.

Horse Trails

Enjoy the African bush and the Zambezi River riding along the river. These cater for novice and experienced riders. 

Quad Biking

Currently Honda TRX250 cc four stroke quad bikes are used on various trails from Batoka Land, designed for you to optimize your experience in the African bush. 

Tiger Moth Flight over the Falls

Step back sixty years and experience a flight in a classic Tiger Moth, with its open cockpit, leather helmet and goggles! A bonus is viewing the magnificent Victoria Falls, whilst on this unique flight.

Traditional Dancing

This show is performed nightly and consists of a variety of exciting authentic tribal dances performed by tribes from Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi, giving guests the opportunity to sample the wonder and mystery of African ceremony and culture.

White Water Rafting

An exhilarating half or full day adventure, beginning with a descent into the 100m Batoka Gorge!  The white water section of the Zambezi River below the Falls consists of a series of turbulent rapids.  Some rapids have been classified by the British Canoe Union as grade 5 (extremely difficult, long and violent rapids, steep gradients, big drops and pressure areas).  In between these are calm, placid stretches to catch your breath!  Please note that the trip ends with a very steep walk/hike out of the Gorge and a reasonable level of fitness is required for this, however it is not necessary to have previous experience of rafting or to be a proficient swimmer to participate.

Museum Tours

David Livingstone Museum - houses memorabilia of the Explorer and Missionary and offers an interesting insight into the life and work of one of the world's greatest explorers.

Railway Museum - dedicated to the past when Livingstone was the Railway Capital of the region with a unique collection of ancient locomotives and coaches.

Walking with Lions  

Enjoy a unique and exciting opportunity to walk alongside these amazing animals under the supervision of experienced guides. This experience is available in Zimbabwe and Zambia.

In Zimbabwe the encounter provides the opportunity to interact with 2/3 cubs for up to an hour and a half in your session. The adult lions also roam free as you join them walking alongside the African bush on the banks of the Masuwe River.  The encounter is fully supervised by an experienced and qualified team with over 20 years experience.

In Zambia the encounter takes you from Thorntree Lodge situated ten minutes from Livingstone. You walk through the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park (which is also the only place in Zambia where rhino can be seen) interacting with the lions for around one and a quarter hours.
