Victoria Falls Hotel

The Victoria Falls Hotel is one of Africa’s best loved hotels, sitting proudly for 106 years just 10 minute’s walk down the private path to the spectacular Victoria Falls. The red tiled roof, whitewashed walls, sheltered terraces and spacious courtyards convey the relaxed, stylish atmosphere of the colonial era, and you can easily feel you are back in the 1920s. Yet over the last two years an extensive refurbishment and redecoration programme has brought the hotel’s rooms and facilities right up to date.

The “Grand old lady of the Falls” has 161 rooms and suites some with falls views and other around the shaded courtyards. Guests can start the day with a sumptuous breakfast in the David Livingstone room and classic afternoon tea on the expansive terrace where you can relax and watch the spray cloud from Victoria Falls rise hundreds of feet into the air. The hotel’s lounge and public areas combine smartness and style with a sense of its heritage.

The hotel’s private pathway takes you straight to the falls, where you can walk half a mile right across the face of the cataracts which seem almost in touching distance. When Victoria Falls in is full spate this is an awe inspiring experience, with the continuous deafening roaring sound and great deluges of soaking spray. Later in the dry season the falls calm down and you can see something of the beautiful rock formations and rainbows showing behind the waterfall.

Guests at Victoria Falls Hotel can enjoy tennis on the hotel’s excellent courts, light aircraft and even microlight flights over the waterfall. You can take a lazy sundowner cruise on the river above the falls or a tumultuous white water rafting adventure through 18 sets of rapids down the gorge below the falls. Add to that an elephant back safari, and exciting game viewing in the Upper Zambezi National Park and you have all the ingredients for a wonderful few days in Africa.
