Location
The Belmond Sanctuary Lodge is the only hotel at Machu Picchu: you simply can’t stay any closer to this extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Site. Being right on the doorstep means that you can access the ruins first thing in the morning when other visitors are labouring up steep hills or negotiating buses. Without the crowds, you can relax and also enjoy sunset viewings.
Accommodation
The hotel’s 32 rooms and suites, along with all communal areas, are stylishly designed and decorated. With unrendered stonework and subtle textiles, the tasteful and calming ambience is well-suited to the adventurous traveller who is put off by opulence.
The restaurant specialises in Peruvian dishes, so this is the ideal place to try stuffed alpaca and creamed sweet potatoes whilst you enjoy the forest views through floor-to-ceiling windows. After dinner, perhaps retreat to the Tampu bar for a traditional muña tea or pisco sour.

The best view of Huayna Picchu can be found from the hotel’s spa where you will be able to indulge in massages, meditation and yoga.
During other downtime, there is a garden with more than 800 species of orchid. It is a great place to experience the local bird life.

- Soak away the aches of the day with a dip at the Aguas Calientes hot springs, surrounded by the lush foliage of the forest.
