Puku Ridge is a small and intimate camp, built unobtrusively overlooking a vast floodplain where the Puku antelope after which the camp is named can be seen grazing throughout the day, along with a host of other animals – who are occasionally disturbed by the arrival of a predator looking for an easy meal.
Each of the seven luxuriously furnished safari tents has vast ‘picture windows’ which overlook the plains surrounding the camp, while inside you find comfortable furniture, and a spacious en-suite bathroom complete with outdoor shower and bathtub with a view. Each tent also has a sweeping verandah, the perfect place to finish the day with a cool drink in hand.
The diverse wildlife along the Kakumbi Dambo floodplain offers great opportunities for photography, whether you choose to explore on foot with a keen-eyed guide, or range further afield in a safari vehicle. And in the evenings you dine with the night sounds of Africa for a soundtrack.

Environment
Puku Ridge is a carbon neutral camp, meaning that the carbon emissions from all logistical/supply/conservation activities and even domestic flights of guests and management, have been carefully calculated and are offset through the purchase of internationally verified Carbon Credits through BioCarbon Partners. Biocarbon Partners operate two forestry conservation programmes in Zambia and their conservation activities not only protect the forests but also protect the boundaries of Zambia’s two prime National Parks from encroachment and poaching.
Conservation
The main priority of Chiawa Safaris, Puku Ridge’s parent company, is to protect the biodiversity of the South Luangwa by providing a safe refuge sustained by responsible safari operations.
Community
Chiawa Safaris have many social initiatives aimed at empowering the local communities within which their camps reside. A few of the many initiatives include the running of a fantastic education programme which has extensive outreach and in-house programs to help communities (from youth to aged) make more environmentally responsible decisions, supplying school uniforms, sporting goods and stationery annually for 300 AIDS orphans and providing bi-annual voluntary HIV/AIDS counselling and testing for all employees.
