Africa Exclusive is a mid-sized owner run specialist travel company with thousands of highly satisfied clients worldwide. We are proud that the degree of service that we provide to clients sets us apart from other holiday companies.
Choosing the right company to arrange your African safari is vitally important. It’s not just a case of booking a few hotels and flights on a computer. The complexity and remoteness of Africa means you need a company that has deep knowledge and first-hand experience of Africa. We are a specialist company which wants to take the time to understand your aims and desires and has the ability to create the perfect itinerary for you.
Africa Exclusive has over 25 years’ experience arranging top quality African safaris and beach holidays. The company is owned and personally run by John and Sue Burdett and Warwick Hoffman who created Africa Exclusive in 1990. Every one of our 15 staff is dedicated to providing the highest quality holidays, from the original design of the itinerary in consultation with you to expert advice to prepare you for your holiday.
The first thing you’ll do when you return from your Africa Exclusive holiday is to tell us what a great time you had! Tales of spectacular wildlife encounters with pictures to prove it.
How you cried when the time came to leave a much loved camp. How we should make sure that every client who visits this lodge must make sure they get a certain guide because he made the holiday. How you can’t believe they can produce such delicious food in the heart of the wilderness. How you’re not sure you can ever return because surely no future safari holiday could be as good as that one……

Africa has hundreds of safari lodges, camps and hotels in a dozen countries. There are 50 National Parks and many more private reserves, all with different weather patterns, scenery and wildlife. You have your own unique interests, activity and comfort preferences and dreams you want to turn into reality. In addition to the safari you may want to relax by a beach, explore the Winelands and experience Africa’s culture. So how do you decide where to go and when?
The answer is to talk to one of our specialists who will listen to you and take the time to understand your interests and desires. Then using our 25 year’s experience they will design the perfect holiday for you. You can then fine tune it with us and when you’re completely happy we will book and organise your holiday so that it runs like clockwork. As we work on a commission basis, the price of your holiday is roughly the same as if you were to contact every lodge, airline and transfer company and organise it yourself.
A highly trained administrator will book every detail of your holiday and keep in touch with you until you depart, answering your questions, making sure you are fully prepared, passing on your drink preferences, medical and dietary needs to each lodge, hotel and airline. Your entire file and travel documents are then triple checked before they are sent to you and while you’re away we have a 24 hour mobile number available – though it hardly ever rings!
Many holidays have a dozen flights, several remote lodges and camps, private transfers and may involve two or more countries. We take into account your drink preferences, medical needs, interests and any special dates while you are away. The file on a typical safari is often three inches thick and the whole thing is triple checked before we send your final travel documentation.
The result is an impeccably arranged holiday which works as one client put it “like a Swiss clock” and in the unlikely event you need us while you’re away, we have a 24 hour mobile phone you can call.
When you’re paying a large sum for a high quality holiday you want to be sure that the company is financially secure. You have complete financial security when you book with Africa Exclusive.
Africa Exclusive is fully bonded and licensed under the Civil Aviation Authority’s ATOL scheme (license number ATOL 2883). This covers all clients who book their international flights and holiday arrangements through us.
Clients who book their own international flights and those who are resident outside the UK are also fully covered under an insurance policy that we voluntarily maintain with Travel and General Insurance Services. This is called a Total Payment Protection Policy (TOPP) and the policy number is AELI/topp/17/11.
With the world constantly changing and evolving Africa Exclusive believe that it’s important that as a company we contribute to conservation of wildlife in Africa so that future generations may enjoy a safari in this beautiful continent. The Africa Exclusive team are dedicated to working with camps that are actively involved with either improving conservation or working with the communities to make a difference.
How do they do this?
Many of the camps in Africa support wildlife conservation by providing economic benefits to the communities around them, encouraging them to actively protect their own environment and the wildlife around it. Part of the investment that you make when booking your safari goes towards the success of these projects.
The camps that we send you to are small with a strict limit on numbers on the conservancy at any one time. This not only allows you to enjoy a more exclusive safari but reduces the impact on the environment. The lodges or tents have been developed over the years to be ecologically sound. The managers are constantly seeking the best ways to manage waste and have invested in alternative energy sources. Elephant Pepper Camp (Mara North Conservancy), for example, has a ‘Gold’ eco rating from the Ecotourism Kenya.
Africa Exclusive works closely with UK charity Send a Cow to support vital village level development projects in Kenya. Directors John and Sue Burdett have visited several projects and have been astounded at the improvements in people’s lives. We and our clients have just raised £30,000 to fund a project which has helped 40 families such as Lawrence and Benta. Typically these people were earning £1 a day labouring, which is not enough to feed a family let alone pay for schooling or urgent medical care. However each family does have one or two acres of land surrounding the hut. Send a Cow trains them over several years to turn hard baked ground into fertile soil to produce healthy vegetables fruit trees and fodder crops for a cow.
The families work together as a group, supporting and encouraging each other and once trained will receive a cow or goat. After about 2 years money from the sale of excess milk and vegetables usually produces about £6 a day which pays for food, schooling, medical help and even university fees. Most families reinvest money in projects like chicken farming, buying chairs to hire out, setting up a village shop or buying a taxi and their income keeps growing. The cows are inseminated and first calves are passed on to another family. People who were previously the poorest, ashamed because they couldn’t even feed themselves find self respect and become trainers of others, passing on their knowledge.

There is a world of difference between one of our tailormade safaris and most package holidays printed in a brochure. Package holidays are usually designed to be as cheap as possible and of course involve large numbers of people doing the same thing. Our safaris use small, more exclusive and remote camps usually with guests flying in, and often virtually everything is included in the price. The experience is completely different.
Many of these small lodges and camps have broadly similar prices, and it is possible to arrange a superb safari holiday for between £6,000 to £10,000 per person ($8,000 – $13,000) season dependant, all inclusive. Realistically it is difficult to reduce that figure, and by including Botswana in peak season, chartering a private plane, disappearing to some magical desert island, or flying at the front of the plane it’s easy to substantially increase that figure!
