Bartolome Island, Galapagos
Elite
One of the few catamarans operating in the Galapagos, and specifically designed for these islands, Elite offers its 16 adventurers a high staff ratio, very spacious and well-proportioned living and communal spaces and an extremely stable ride. It’s a good option for those who worry about sea sickness.

Location
Operating over four different routes around the Galapagos archipelago, the Elite catamaran regularly visits Española and Genovesa islands, two of the gems of the region.
Accommodation
The eight extremely spacious cabin suites are split between two decks to ensure that all of them have the maximum amount of ocean view out of their glass-wall windows. Furthermore, each has its own balcony; a place for getting away from it and watching the magnificent scenery drift by. You don’t even have to bring binoculars because they’ll be in your cabin already.
The whole vessel, not just the cabins, is designed around the concept of maximising the views from every available position. The opulent interiors that mix teak, glass and marble do not detract or distract because the panoramic windows and the views beyond are just so dominant. There’s a huge semi-shaded sky deck, a pleasant alfresco dining area and a very comfortable lounge and bar. The lounge is also stocked with large numbers of reference books, and it is the place to gather for evening information sessions and lectures from the boat’s expert naturalists.
The vibrant nautically themed art-deco dining room is where you will take most of your meals, unless you want to eat outside, and the two long dining tables will provide the opportunity to mix with like-minded fellow travellers. The menu is varied and you will be tempted to experiment with all the available tastes of Ecuador, the ingredients for which are locally sourced if possible.
Experiences
- You will be issued with an excursion bag for the duration of your trip so you have quick access to essentials such as wet suit, snorkel, mask and fins. There’ll be no delay when you get a chance to dive into the diverse marine ecosystem.
- The catamaran has two kayaks with transparent bottoms so that you can see the marine life right below you. Perhaps a majestic manta ray will glide past, or you might see a turtle.
- Make use of the boat’s paddleboards. It’s great for core strength and for balance.
- There are numerous land-based excursions for you to enjoy, so you will get to see giant tortoises, marine iguanas, frigate birds, blue footed boobies and penguins. Our favourite is the “Bird Island” of Genovesa.
- You’ll be issued with a laser pointer so that you can discuss the starts with other guests and with the on-board expert.
